Slacking

The problem with having a site like this is that it looks really bad if you (I) don't keep it up. There's been so much news since the last time I posted I wouldn't even know where to begin if I was going to catch up. Shoe bombers, men killing their families, airport security (or the lack thereof). I could go on and on, and I'm sure you know that. Instead of trying to catch up, I'm going to make a New Year's resolution (which I probably won't keep). I'm going to try to update more frequently. Until then, happy new year!

George Harrison

Enough already!

I like the Beatles. I like George Harrison. But for heaven's sake let the man and his family rest in peace!

I don't mean to sound cold and heartless, but we all knew for a year he was sick and dying. When he did die, it shouldn't have been a shock to anyone. The media is acting as if he was shot outside his apartment building or something.

It seems to me he would have been apalled at all the attention he's getting. I'm glad he's in a better place and doesn't have to witness it all.

Rest in peace.

Figuring out how I feel

Obviously, there's been a lot to write about in the weeks that I've let this blog slide, but I'm not sure how I feel about any of it. I'm still not sure, but I'm going to write about it anyway.

There's a possibility of a terrorist attack sometime soon, according to Tom Ridge, director of Homeland Security, but the government can't tell us where or when it's going to be. All we know is it's a credible threat. Here's my take on that: They know exactly where and when it's going to be (or they're reasonably sure) but don't know how to stop it.

Why do I think that? In days and weeks that followed the Sept. 11 attacks, we learned that the government did receive threats concerning an attack on America. For whatever reason (arrogance perhaps?) the threats weren't taken seriously enough. Because the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center came off like it did, the government was left with egg on its face. The attacks most certainly could have been stopped. We've all heard by now how easy it was for the terrorists to gain access to airports, get onto the planes and do everything else necessary to carry out the plan. The fact that it was so easy for them is mind boggling -- and an embarrassment to our government.

Now, by telling us there's a credible threat of an attack, at least they're letting us know they're doing something. It pains me to say, however, that I don't think it will be enough. I think there will be some kind of attack (probably tomorrow -- the 60th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor).

I don't think as many people will feel the fear or shed the tears they felt on Sept. 11. I think more people will be frustrated and confused as to why it couldn't be stopped.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope the government does know how to stop the next attack before it happens and thousands of people lose their lives.
