As a former print journalist, I found this very interesting. What I find even more interesting is the number of newspapers that still aren't online, or those that don't use their sites as they should. My former employee falls into the latter category. The current editors and publishers have absolutely no vision when it comes to developing an online presence. Their Web site hasn't changed in nearly two years. Actually it has. It's gotten worse, if that's possible. Typos. HTML errors. Not updating their weather forecast. You name it. It's awful, and it's all just stupidity and laziness. You'd think, with the majority of people in the newsroom under the age of 35, they would have some idea of how to develop a decent site. Oh well. It's not my problem anymore. I even offered to do a re-design for them and they ignored the offer. Screw 'em.
